gun ownership, USA

Big Mister told me tonight that for the next two weeks the plant where he works will have 24-hour police presence.  Apparently, an employee is very angry with a manager.   The employee has a gun and knows how to use it quite well.

He has apparently lost touch with our more usual reality, too.  Brain injury gone bad.

Lockdown, Big Mister will be in lockdown with open gates.  Yes, there is more than one entrance.

One police car loaded with guns.

How will this end?

It really is time for America to think again about gun ownership.

As long as anyone can nip into a shop and buy an assault rifle as easily as buying a can of beans I think the problem will continue. The recent shootings make you want to cry – and hug your kids very tight.

I fail to understand the logic of an ordinary, job-going, grocery-buying citizen buying an assault rifle. I will never understand it. Never mind the Romney Apocalypse; we can do well enough on our own without a narrow-minded leader-wanna-be telling us how to think.

Sad. Hoping all ends well of course. Angry employee needs to find another place to work if he is so angry about being there. And yep I know it isn’t that easy.

Angry employee had become unable to do the job and his manager told him off for it. From what Big said, the manager probably didn’t have a lot of touchy-feely stuff to offer. Add in the death of Angry’s father to the brain injury behavior….

We’re all fuses waiting to be lit. We never know someone else’s story, what they’re coping with. …

” We never know someone else’s story, what they’re coping with. ..” That is so true. But seriously is work the place for him?

No. He apparently has been fired because of the threat against the supervisor yesterday or Monday.

He’s been told to stay away, hence the police.

I’m getting worked up about this–all these folks are going to work acting as if it’s business as usual. HELLLOOOO!!!! Whatthehell!?? Everyone just hoping Angry drives in that one gate where the cop car sits with its lone officer?! Or just hoping nothing bad will happen?! wtf wtf wtf???!!! This is not normal. Think of the strain these non-combat folks are under! arrrrgggggggg

Oh dear, I can imagine how concerned you must be. The upside is that at least there is some awareness of the threat and everyone needs to be very vigilant over the next few weeks.

I have had to choose to be not upset about this, Jacquie, because I can do nothing about it.

I’m aware of the emotional cost of that kind of vigilance–not good at all.

I called Big at work and demanded more information–politely but firmly. That has helped me because he talked to the officer on duty. And I got to say my peace–this isn’t business as usual, they’re effectively under siege…. a mini siege is still a siege… how big does a threat have to be in order to feel under siege? (And if he plays the hero and gets killed, I WILL haunt him from life. So there.)
