craigslist and Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)

we’ve talked about this before.  here is the craigslist take on the Stop Online Piracy Act.  please don’t let our world be controlled like this.  George Orwell’s 1984 doesn’t need to happen.

craigslist | about > SOPA.

The internet is an amazing creation–think of the people you’ve met and the places you’ve seen because of the electrons that are connected in some sort of web.

I’m embarrassed to admit, I don’t know about this. I need to come out from under my rock, I guess. Clearly, I’ve met a number of amazing people on line–and you are certainly among them, my friend.
    Hugs,
    Kathy

It has not been widely publicized and certainly has been overshadowed by the Congress Clown Show. Obfuscation!

Craigslist provided easy links to congressional members….

Me, too, Kathy–meeting you. And to think some entity could shut down a site without due process. arrrrgggggh!

Is this a plan for the US, or is it an international proposal?
My kneejerk reaction is that if Murdoch is for it, there must be good reasons to oppose it!

This reminds me of the outcry the movie industry made when VCR’s and videos came out on the scene. Movie moguls were scared that videos would take away their already dwindling profits from the theater-going public. Nothing could have been farther from reality. In fact, videos and now DVD’s reawakened the public’s interest in movies. Phrases like “seeing it on the big screen,” are now part of our speech because of the new technology. Whenever we try to stop progress, we are fighting a losing battle. Thanks for the post.

I meant to do something with this, but those round tuits are scarce these days: WordPress officially comes out against SOPA/PIPA, calls on its users for help
    sociable.co
WordPress officially opposes the introduction of the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act (SOPA…
…and this is about useless, as it was sent to me on FB and I can’t copy the link… sigh…
