Bookcase interruptus

I’ve been so busy trying to finish the found-in-a-free-pile at the old Weyerhaeuser estate the giant-a** bookcase that I haven’t paid attention to vacation pics–next post with pics.    If you’ve been reading, you will know that I had it in the garage all primed and ready for the finish coats when the Big Mister quietly asked:  “Will it fit through the door?”   Answer:  NO!  So, had to take it apart and blah-blah-blah it turned into a carpentry lesson, well several lessons.  I was admittedly an unwilling, grousing carpenter, …but I got a great lesion on my hand during a lesson, which is healing nicely!  Maybe I’ll have a scar!!

It is now through the door and back together where it will live behind our pomegranate-painted front door (that’s a drop cloth hanging behind it).  The finish coat today (celadon green, which as Mom says, goes with pomegranate!) and the clear, protective finish tomorrow.

Maybe by Tuesday it will have books on it collected from many places in the house where they’ve been stacked, dustily waiting a new home.  All the books won’t fit–we are readers and I love books, and so save ’em!   What a start though.  Each shelf is 38 inches long, so that’s a lot of shelf space!  I’m also pleased to have saved a piece of real wood history, so I’ll put a note on the back of it for the next owners of this little house.

Gorgeous bookshelf! Glad you were able to find a way to get it into the house :) I’m always lacking shelf space…

Hi Boston! Thanks for stopping by and admiring the bookcase. >:-D

Me, too–never enough shelf space. Or floor space for that matter–we live in 760 sq ft! I learned long ago to go vertical and use those walls!

I love large bookcases — they give that built-in look.
